LSW participation in
Phase II of the H.E.S.S. Project

Very High Energy Gamma Ray Astrophysics

After the successful launch and the exciting results achieved with the first four H.E.S.S. telescopes (phase I), work for H.E.S.S. phase II has now started. In phase II, a single 27m dish will be added to the existing four telescope array. For energies above 100 GeV, the new array will have twice the sensitivity compared to phase I, while at the same time the large telescope will reach a threshold of about 20 GeV. The H.E.S.S. team at Landessternwarte is actively participating in the preparations for H.E.S.S. phase II.

The H.E.S.S. project is run by a collaboration of European and African institutions. The Landessternwarte Heidelberg (LSW) is a member of this collaboration. LSW activities with H.E.S.S. are conducted in the group of Prof. S. Wagner.
