Title | Pre-Supernova Evolution of Massive Stars |
Abstract |
Massive stars are ending their lives in spectacular explosions. While in the standard scenario, these explosions are triggered by the collapse of an iron core to a neutron star, some massive stars find different explosion channels, producing electron capture supernovae, pair instability supernovae, carbon deflagration supernovae, or gamma-ray bursts. While those are thought to be rare and insignificant in the local universe, I will show that they may dominate the picture at sub-Solar metallicity. |
