MIA+EWS for Mac Computers

Since the Landessternwarte bought a MacBook for me, it became unavoidable to port MIA+EWS to Mac OS X. This was not as trivial as one might think, since Mac OS X is almost, but not quite unlike Linux. Therefore, we can and will not provide support for every Mac computer model and every version of the OS. In fact, we do not provide support for anything. The software is provided as-is and it probably ran at least once on my MacBook.

The recommended hardware and software configuration is:

• MacBook (black)
• Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
• Memory: 1 GB
• Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 (there have been reports that it does not work on 10.6)

If you have a different configuration, then you can try Leonard Burtscher's method to install MIA+EWS on a Mac. It is described in the wiki at MPIA.

Here is the latest version that has been ported to Mac OS X: MIA+EWS-2008Jun20

I don't use MIA+EWS any more, so I'm not planning to release a newer version.

Installation

1. unpack the tar-file: tar xvfz MIA+EWS-*-IntelMac.tgz
2. go to the directory: cd MIA+EWS-*-IntelMac
3. start the installer: make gui (make cli will not work!)
4. Click on "Install"
5. Hope for the best.

Manual

The Mac-Version should work in exactly the same way as the version for Linux and other Unixes. If all else fails, you might want to have a look at the friendly manual.
